The
thing about group projects is that they do help people learn to work with each
other and they are a way to learn how cope with other people in the future… But
I find group projects to be as stupid as
a headless chicken. Recently at school in one of my classes we had to do a
group project in class and this past weekend the entire group was supposed to
work on the report of what we found. And instead of all of us working together
online over the weekend, I had to write it all by myself when they could easily
have done their fair share of the work. The consequence of my having to write
the report instead of them writing part of it also was that I got to stay up
past one in the morning trying to finish other homework I had due.
It
may sound ironic, but going to school and learning makes me happy. Group
projects being part of school are what I despise about school. In today’s
society when people are told to work together on a project it tends to end up
being where ONE person does most or all of the work and the other people take
credit for that work. I tend to be much happier when I work on projects alone.
OR if the people I work with are those who I know are hard workers. The
structure of group projects are supposed to be where people look at the project
and depending on each person’s strengths they do what they are strongest at in
the project so that the project succeeds.

Ha, I hate group projects, so I'm with you on this one (I generally don't assign them for this reason). Like you, I was the one who always seemed to end up doing most of the work... even as an adult, in college and grad school. There's no good solution, except choosing other hard workers if you get to choose your group members. I don't think it's a very good way to test knowledge!
